What I learned So far In class

These past few months I have learned many things that one day will help me in the future. For example I have learned medical terminology and how to brake down whole words and identify word parts. I still need to work on whole words; and we still have so much more to learn. I almost now all of the words in the list but I still need to work on that. I also learned all the names of all the animals in our class room, even our two new members, Harvi and Bindi.
I also found out that your appearance and your attitude really matters in this profession. Now I now how to deep clean tanks, cages, how and what to feed them and I got to learn animal behavior for dogs and birds and other animals. I found out that it’s important to keep our pets busy and have things that will keep our animals entertained and busy. I learned how to cut animals nails and how to take fleas out of the fur. I also learned that theirs different brushes for different types of fur.

Clicker Training

How can the clicker be used in a veterinarian field?

The clicker can be very useful in the veterinary field. For example if the animal knows how to do special things like, to lay on its back or to stand still the veterinarian can be doing what it needs to do while the animal is paying attention to the owner, and so the animal will be distracted and it will be easier for the vet to do what needs to be done. Usually the animal is paying attention to the vet and the animal will move and so if the animal can pay attention to the clicker then it’s easier for the vet. It’s easier for the vet if it knows how to sit, lie down, stay, or shake. If all pet owners would teach their dogs clicker training then when they go to a vet the it will be much easier for the owner and the dog, it would be done much faster.

I have a dog and whenever someone rings the door bell or knocks on the door he automatically stars barking and runs to the door to see who it is. And if he doesn’t recognize the person he will not stop barking. So I put him in his room where he sleeps until he stops barking or until the person leaves. Even though I yell at him “NO” he will not stop barking unless I really yell at him and then he runs away to my room and just growls. So I am going to teach him not to bark at people, it might be with the clicker by using treats or I might try something else.

He also barks at people outside at our yard and that isn’t good because people might think that he will bite. I’m also going to try to correct and teach him that it’s not ok to bark at other people. One time when one of my uncles came home for a visit he gave my dog a scare and the dog holds a grudge on him for scaring him since my dog is scare at mostly everything like the broom, vacuum cleaner, and other big things. And by using the clicker I will teach him that it’s ok and he doesn’t need to be afraid of my uncle or anything else.

4 Week Reflection

As day's and week's pass I have found myself enjoying every minute here. I have learned many things these past few weeks and I am glad I'm here today. Everything I have learned is not as hard as I thought, but it also isn't easy. I'm still working on my words since I have a harder time memorizing my them but I'm working on it. I have also learned many things about the animals in our class and I'm excided to see what other animals will come in.
I haven't really excelled at much as I would wan't to yet but I plan to change that as class start getting more busy. What I need to work on is on trying to interact more with my classmates. I usually need more time to now people but I tend to be more of a quiet person but as things start to get more exciting I start getting more involved and plan to talk more. I also need to work on my leadership skills and getting more involved with the class because I tend to only sit and see every one else doing something but if anyone needs help I help them out. I have always had trouble with these things but I am going to try really hard and get over it. When you ask me a direct question I tend to forget what to say or I don't now what to say because I'm usually more of a slower thinker.
I feel I still have to learn many things about my classmates. When we started to do our group job's I would find myself trying to help but everything would be done in a flash. I did help put the rocks in separate containers when you brought some new cages. I cleaned the cage that looked like a rat's cage and that cage was really dirty but I got some help from Suzy and Irene. After that Suzy and I had to dry the cage and put it were it belonged. All the students in the class are good at finding something to do.

Kitten Observations

Hello ,
When I first started going to class for the first few days the kittens only seemed like they
were only playing and sleeping. They also didn't seem like they new us yet. But as days passed I started to notice changes in the kittens and not all seemed like fun and games. As the days passes by I learned that the kittens liked to explore around. I also got the chance to learn how to wash flees out of their skin. I also liked how they would play with each other and how each of the kittens had their own personality. They also seemed to like snug places to sleep in. They all liked climbing things like the cage and go around the floor were everyone would pet them. They also seemed like they liked the dogs but I cold tell they weren't that comfortable around them. But I also learned that when ever they would play for a while they would all come to the cage, eat and by when we left for the day they would start getting tiered.
The kittens seemed to like their food allot. All the kittens enjoyed interacting with each other especially the two boys. When sissy was not around they would play really rough. I could tell sissy was the smart one of the three because she seems to figure out thing much more faster than her two brothers. The orange cat (sorry forgot his name), likes to be around more and not at one place for to long. When we first saw them taking a bath I new cats didn't like water they looked so cute when they were all wet and raped with a towel.
Sincerly,
Mary Padilla
